Matabungkay is a barangay of the municipality of Lian, Batangas, the Philippines. It is known for its white sand beach which is reasonably accessible from Manila (about 120 kilometres (75 mi)).
If you wake up at 5 am, you will see fully exposed, the famous coral reef about 50 meters from the low tide mark in the center of the cove which diverts the incoming waves beautifully and creates some that on good days you could body surf on. Snorkelling is very popular, If you are lucky, aboard a pedal boat, you may just see a pawikan! (Just as I did!) There is a growing population for SUP enthusiasts at Matabunkay Beach, especially every summer, where they hold competitions and several events. At present, it is a top tourist destination during the Philippine summer season (April to June), but just a heads up, it gets very crowded.
Matabunkay Beach Hotel, Coral Beach Club, and Al Fresco Beach Club, are amongst the most popular overnight destinations available.
Aside from cottages and houses, there are small sheds of bamboo construction, or “Balsas”, a group could rent for a day to have a picnic on board.
